Relentless Possibilities: 7 Tips to Accomplishing your Goals

October 10, 2018

Every person in life at some point has had a goal they've wanted to accomplish. Whether it is big or little; you want to lose weight, get better grades, or be rich, everyone has goals. There's a lot of people that have a goal but take no action. Here are 7 tips to help you get into action and accomplish your goals.

1. Dream Big

  • It starts with the mindset you have. Being in my early 20’s I have my whole life ahead of me and to not dream big and to settle for the norm would be a waste of the talents that God has given me and the inner drive to be great that I have inside myself. Your thoughts are what you become so if you are trying to manifest the big dreams you have, it starts with your thoughts and then is followed by action. By doing that you can accomplish whatever your goals may be. “Shoot for the moon, even if you miss you’ll land among the stars..”

2. Know Your Why

  • As you are on the path to trying to achieve your goals, you will no doubt encounter obstacles and hard times. When you are faced with the decision to either quit and give in, or keep pushing, knowing your why will help you keep pursuing that goal. It gives you purpose and that purpose is what inspires you in the good times and prevents you from giving up in the bad times.

3. Plan

  • “By failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail.”  By having a plan in place for how you are going to achieve your goal, you are more likely to succeed. It will give you a road map of what you need to do to achieve your goal and by breaking it up, it makes it easier than looking at this big task you have to accomplish. Even if you have a plan set in place, and things don’t go according to the exact plan, you still have a basic idea of how you want to accomplish your goal.

4. Be Dedicated and Consistent

  • The only way to become better or accomplish something is if you are constantly working at it day in and day out. Even when things aren’t going well, are you still going to stick to the plan you laid out and put the work in that it takes to make it happen? Some days you might not feel like working out or you don’t want to study, but how committed are you really going to be to what you want to do. Over time, the results of putting in the work day in and day out will pay off and you will be glad you were focused and dedicated the whole time.

5. Stay Positive

  • This can be one of the hardest things to do especially when things aren’t going the way you want. However, being negative won’t help the situation at all and it might make it worse. By having a positive mentality about things, you will feel better and positivity is contagious. People want to be around other people with good energy and positivity and dread being around people that don’t have it. Focus on finding the joy throughout the process and how you can be happy and grateful for the position that you are in.

6. Block Out Doubters

  • No matter what you do, people will always try to bring you down or discredit and hate on what you are doing. It’s a part of life and you have to learn to deal with it. At the end of the day, you just have to block them out. You know your purpose and have a vision for what you are doing and someone saying they don’t think it’s good or you won’t be successful with it is no reason to stop. Use it as motivation and keep going because you believe in what you are doing and at the end of the day that is what matters not what someone else says.

7. Track your Progress

  • If you are dreaming big then your goal is most likely not something that can be accomplished in a day. You should split it up and have milestones that you are looking to hit while you are on the path to your big awesome goal. By holding yourself accountable or having a buddy or partner that holds you accountable and tracks your progress you are able to see if you are keeping the pace or if you need to speed up and start working harder. Tracking your progress is just another way to make sure that you are actions are in line with what you are saying.

Here are the goals that I wrote out before my senior year started. They say if you write your goals down, they are more likely to happen. I put them on post it notes and stuck them on the wall right next to my door so every time I walked out of my door I would see them. I separated them into 3 categories, personal, school, and basketball. While I accomplished a lot of these goals, I also didn't accomplish some as well. But being able to look at these everyday kept me focused and helped immensely.  Even with the goals I didn't accomplish, I learned from them which is just as important. This year I have new goals and new things to accomplish and I will write them down and put them on my door as well. I encourage you to write down your goals so they can be a daily reminder that you can do it!
